Clacksfirst Business Improvement District supporting the Clacks Community

Working with Scotland’s Improvement Districts (SIDs) and the Scottish Government, Clacksfirst Business Improvement District (BID) has worked tirelessly throughout the COVID19 lockdown, and the various phases of returning to business, in order to ensure that the significant number of social care workers in our community are provided with PPE.

Through the government-backed Scottish BID Resilience Fund, Clacksfirst BID has secured the capacity to provide the care sector and the local business community with much-needed, and in short supply, plastic reusable face visors.

Kevin Deighan, Clacksfirst BID said “What was expected from the funding was a radical shift, to move to an emergency footing and to deliver support around COVID19 mitigation. Basically, we were to implement radical new initiatives and a break from the perceived norm”.

To date the BID has distributed almost 6,000 visors to the social care sector and to businesses throughout Clackmannshire and there is capacity for more.

Kevin said “We do have the resources to deliver more visors and, as we move into winter and the possibility of a second wave, we will continue to promote the availability of the visors to those organisations delivering a fantastic care service as well as the business community”

The local company supplying Clacksfirst with the face visors, Thredgards, has, whenever possible, delivered the visors on behalf of the BID, David Haswell, Thredgards told us “Over the past few months, it’s been a pleasure for Thredgards to support Clacksfirst BID and the local community, especially the social care sector, with our Hedgard face shield. As a result, other local companies have approached us to purchase visors, which we are more than happy to do. Thredgards will continue to do what it can to help businesses to continue to operate”.

The BID-funded PPE is greatly appreciated by the local care sector with many of them responding through social media. Forth Valley Sensory Centre tweeted “Huge #thanks to @Clacksfirst for the #donation of #FaceShields to help us continue supporting our Centre Users safely with #coronavirus very much still out there. A great help!” Transform Forth Valley also praised the BID saying ““This is such incredible work that you are doing, thank you again to you and your amazing team for organising this for the local community.” Dorry McLaughlin, Chief Executive of Scottish Autism added ““Scottish Autism is delighted and grateful to be receiving the supply of face visors through Clacksfirst BID. These will be used by our support staff when caring for the autistic people we support in the local community”.

The business community has expressed its gratitude for the support from the BID, Graham Clark, Owner of Scot-Serve said “That’s fabulous Kevin and hugely appreciated“ whilst Ochil Fudge Pantry kept it short but very on-point ““Thanks Kevin. Awesome!”.

Clacksfirst Bid is now providing its member businesses and organisations with directional and social distancing COVID19 signage to help its members and employee’s to safely navigate their way around business premises.

David Anderson

David was a partner in the local aggregate business Hamilton & Brydie and had been a Director of the business for almost 20 years. Hamilton & Brydie was sold recently and David is now the owner and Director of Anderson Properties (Scotland) Ltd.

Ali Davidson

Ali has 25 years’ experience in local economic development, firstly as Property Manager and then Assistant Director at STEP in Stirling. Ali then joined Ceteris in Alloa where she managed the Business Development team, delivering Business Gateway support in Clackmannanshire. Ali’s current role is Team leader, Economic Development at Clackmannanshire Council, overseeing employability programmes, UKSPF projects, and other economic development activity. Ali has a BA (Hons) degree in Economics, Post Graduate Diploma in Facilities Management and SFEDI Diploma in Business and Enterprise Support.

William Marlin

William is a Director at 123v LTD, a family run business which was established in the 1990s that specialises in carport and canopy design and install. He studied Law & Management and was involved in property renovations for many years. In 2015, he joined the family business where he works in Sales and Marketing as well as general management.

Doug Moodie (BA FCCA DipM)

Doug is a Chartered Accountant and Management Consultant having worked predominantly in Financial Services. 

He was appointed by Scottish Government in 2022 as Chair of Care Inspectorate in Scotland, Director of NHS Healthcare Improvement Scotland and Director of Scottish Social Services Council (SSSC) and has been Chair of Children’s Panel in Falkirk for over ten years. Doug is passionate about young people and is the owner of Kidz World Nursery Ltd in Alloa and Stirling. Doug is also Managing Director of various property companies involved in Lettings, Holiday Homes, Development and Property Factoring.
