Responsibly dealing with waste can be
challenging and we want to help

The BID recycling service is a free, weekly service provided for through BID investment. We service all ten business parks and industrial estates throughout Clackmannanshire. The service came about through the BID’s investment to Zero Waste Scotland (ZWS) with the aim of ‘acquainting’ a significant number of businesses with the changes to regulations around dry, mixed recyclables.

The Project

The pilot was welcomed by the BID members and valued, to the extent that the Board of Clacksfirst BID agreed to fund the service from the BID Levy. This service is used by many BID members and is seen as an essential aspect of the BID saving time and money whilst keeping to the Waste (Scotland) 2012 Regulations.

The regulations were passed by the Scottish Parliament on 9 May 2012 and make the following provisions: All businesses, public sector and not-for-profit organisations are required to present metal, plastic, glass, paper and cardboard for collection from 1st January 2014.

The Operation

Our contractor, Binn Group, carries out the BID-funded uplift service every Wednesday.

We will supply your business with recycling bags for paper, cans and plastic. Cardboard should also be presented every Wednesday.

Free Wood Recycling Service

Our wood recycling service was borne of the BIDs priority to reduce crime and vandalism in the business spaces of Clackmannanshire. It began as a pallet removal service, taking away materials that could be a fire hazard or used as climbing apparatus.

This evolved into a wood recycling service and is delivered in partnership with Criminal Justice Service (CJS), a partnership that could only come about by having a BID representing the collective business community.

This service is used by many BID members and has become an essential aspect of the BID. Our wood recycling service is delivered every six weeks sending huge volumes of wood to be recycled.

Our contractor, Binn Group, carries out the free uplift service every Wednesday.

We will supply your business with recycling bags for paper, cans and plastic which must be presented, cardboard should also be presented on Wednesdays. It is important to let us know that you would like to use the service, if you contact Kevin Deighan, BID Manager will arrange to meet with you and offer guidance regarding what you should or shouldn’t do.

Generally, the only period of the year when timings of the uplift can vary is Christmas and New Year. We will advise, on a year-by-year basis, of timings in due course.

Clacksfirst BID, in partnership with and funded by Clackmannanshire & Stirling Environment Trust and Clackmannanshire Environmental Improvement Fund, has installed more than twenty litter and recycling bins throughout the BID Area.

Our Aim

Our aim is to keep the working environment litter free and to encourage recycling-on-the-go. The litter and recycling bins are serviced through partnership working with Clackmannanshire Council.

David Anderson

David was a partner in the local aggregate business Hamilton & Brydie and had been a Director of the business for almost 20 years. Hamilton & Brydie was sold recently and David is now the owner and Director of Anderson Properties (Scotland) Ltd.

Ali Davidson

Ali has 25 years’ experience in local economic development, firstly as Property Manager and then Assistant Director at STEP in Stirling. Ali then joined Ceteris in Alloa where she managed the Business Development team, delivering Business Gateway support in Clackmannanshire. Ali’s current role is Team leader, Economic Development at Clackmannanshire Council, overseeing employability programmes, UKSPF projects, and other economic development activity. Ali has a BA (Hons) degree in Economics, Post Graduate Diploma in Facilities Management and SFEDI Diploma in Business and Enterprise Support.

William Marlin

William is a Director at 123v LTD, a family run business which was established in the 1990s that specialises in carport and canopy design and install. He studied Law & Management and was involved in property renovations for many years. In 2015, he joined the family business where he works in Sales and Marketing as well as general management.

Doug Moodie (BA FCCA DipM)

Doug is a Chartered Accountant and Management Consultant having worked predominantly in Financial Services. 

He was appointed by Scottish Government in 2022 as Chair of Care Inspectorate in Scotland, Director of NHS Healthcare Improvement Scotland and Director of Scottish Social Services Council (SSSC) and has been Chair of Children’s Panel in Falkirk for over ten years. Doug is passionate about young people and is the owner of Kidz World Nursery Ltd in Alloa and Stirling. Doug is also Managing Director of various property companies involved in Lettings, Holiday Homes, Development and Property Factoring.
